Hello Charles,

In 1971 local government was re organised. This reorganisation gave far more power to the officials of the council. When I stood for a second time in 1984, I found that the officials were already controlling the council. Elected members were, in most of the business transacted, acting as rubber stamps. Your arguments are with the officials not with the elected members.

I was first elected to the council in 1968. In recent years I have become increasingly suspicious of corruption amongst officials of all kinds. This is the answer to your problem maybe?

I support you in your actions but how do we bring back honesty and integrity to our local and national government. Whom can we trust?

I like your web site and the associated forum.

The local council in my part of Berkshire has just been told that it must pay the costs of an appeal made by Tesco against a restriction on one of its store's opening hours. This particular store was being treated differently from all other stores in the area.

As a council tax payer, I shall be paying a part of these costs. I think that this is unjust. The persons responsible for refusal of Tesco's application should foot the bill. Someone was obviously acting in self interest or in the interest of a very small group of residents or maybe it was just playing politics. That sort of behaviour cannot be condoned.
What a tragedy. This is probably the best looking barn I have ever seen and to imagine it being pulled down is dreadful. I would imagine Mr White will have a huge claim against the Council for malpractice being that they approved the plans and gave the go ahead for the building. Harold, Woodhouse Eaves

This barn is so beautifully built that it could be featured in Grand Designs. No wonder the council has decided to make you pull it down. If you were a planning officer and saw a tractor living in better accommodation than you were living in yourself, what would you do? Nickf

CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. IN TODAYS DAY AND AGE IT IS ASTONISHING THAT MALADMINISTRATION ON SUCH A GRAND SCALE COULD HAPPEN.

It is so sad if Mr Charles White's beautiful barn has to be knocked down as its so in keeping with the area.

And it's such a pleasant change from the faceless houses that are allowed to be built today. They turn our villages into towns!

If Mr White's barn was a few centuries older it could be a listed building.

If he broke the law, he should tear it down but looking at all the evidence I dont think he did break the law. Playing the Devil's Advocate, would he be asked to take it down if he was a 'Traveller'? Kulgan, Crydee
