HOW CAN SUCH A STUNNING BUILDING THAT IS SO IN CHARACTER WITH THE VILLAGE OF SWITHLAND BE PULLED DOWN WHEN ROTHLEY TEMPLE ESTATES ARE ABOUT TO BUILD 147 NEW HOUSES IN THE NEIGHBOURING VILLAGE OF ROTHLEY ON GREEN BELT LAND !! WHY ARE LOCAL POLITICIANS SUPPORTING THAT DEVELOPMENT OF FACELESS HOUSES ( SUBJECT TO GUESS WHAT...... A SECTION 106 PAYMENT OF ABOUT A MILLION POUNDS TO CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL ) YET THE SAME COUNCIL IS HANGING MR CHARLES WHITE FOR HIS INCREDIBLE BARN IN SWITHLAND ??? SHAME ON CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL. A.HAYES LOUGHBOROUGH

I live on Hallfields Lane in Rothley. My home backs onto the charnwood council approved Rothley Temple Estates house development. My wife and I turned up to the plans committee meeting together with over 80 other local residents. The council refused planning consents for this development of houses in Rothley during the plans meeting yet the following day the council had "U" turned on their refusal and the plans for 149 new houses was granted. A massive in excess of £1,000,000 Section 106 agreement was signed with charnwood borough council subject to approval of planning consents for the development.

My family and many of our friends in Rothley are in total shock that Mr White has been treated like a criminal after building with the approval of the same council a "full of character barn" for his legitimate farming business.

There is nothing right about these 149 new houses in Rothley ( to be built on green belt land ) and yet Rothley Temple Estates get to build their "housing estate" because it appears from our perspective that they have agreed to pay the council a massive amount of money on a section 106 agreement.

Why didnt our local councillors Diane Wise and Peter Osborne prevent this development of 149 new houses from going ahead in our village yet back the council to demolish Mr White's lovely barn in Swithland ?

From where I stand this whole situation smells nasty. Where are our local councillors when we need them ? AngryAngryAngry

good luck, i could not belive what i was reading when i saw this, because i thought once planning was granted, it was a legally binding document/contract and could not be overturned, i hope you win as its a lovely building, regards

This building is beautiful. I would be wrong to demolish it or modify it in any way.

Dear Mr White
We have read your story in the Leicester Mercury and have seen various reports on the television about your barn. This is a most disturbing story that saddens us greatly. Your barn is beautiful and it is appropriate for its location. We hope you do not have to pull it down and we hope too that it is not to be modified in any way because it is perfect as it is. Good luck with your fight. Gill and Robert Spokes.

The barn looks good enough to live in!!! I'll wager it has cavity walls perhaps with some insulation so the tractor keeps warm at night.

Hi there. Love your youtube video. Good to see someone fighting back against corruption.

This is bureaucracy gone mad. Charnwood Council has an almost Nazi-style view of rules and regulations where the law is ignored and Communism prevails. God help us poor souls that live under the mercy of this Nazi Council.

This particular store was being treated differently from all other stores in the area.

As a council tax payer, I shall be paying a part of these costs. I think that this is unjust. The persons responsible for refusal of Tesco's application should foot the bill. Someone was obviously acting in self interest or in the interest of a very small group of residents or maybe it was just playing politics. That sort of behaviour cannot be condoned.

YEH, WOT A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. WHY ARE WE THE TAXPAYER PAYING FOR COUNCIL SCREW UPS LIKE THIS ? THERE SHOULD BE A PUBLIC ENQUIRY INTO THIS SCREWUP. DONT BOTHER GOING TO YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR TO ASK FOR ONE, IVE HEARD HE MAY BE THE REASON THE COUNCIL ISSUED THE ENFORCEMENT NOTICE. BAZ.

what a waste of such valueable building materials. surely charnwood borough council could make some form of agreement with mr white to retain the building subject to various conditions ? i dont foresee the replacement barn looking so in character with the village.
