Swithland Agricultural Holdings is a farm based in the Leicestershire
village of Swithland. We run our farm on a total land holding of 17.73
acres ( 7.18 hectares). Swithland Agricultural Holdings is an operating division of Swithland UK Limited, an agricultural import and export business. Our administrative offices are based nearby in Loughborough. The farming business is defined by two main product divisions : Heritage Pork HeritagePork is located and operating at land in Swithland although we plan to expand our existing site to further land adjacent to our current land in Swithland to further increase our productivity. The Heritage Pork production focuses on Rare Breed livestock. Rare breeds are traditionally more suited to the smaller Free Range enterprise which our farm holding is a typical example. Our livestock it fully outdoor reared and is totally Free Range. We believe quality produce can only be achieved by farming the best flavoured livestock breeds and by allowing the animals the right and freedom to roam and root at will. Large British supermarkets buy a majority of their pork from cheap European exporters that do not have to comply with strict health and safety and livestock requirements that are more stringently enforced within the United Kingdom. For this reason, mass produced intensively indoor reared pork has forced the demise of the pork farming business in the United Kingdom over the past 20 or so years. Few farmers are interested in farming pork because of the stringent DEFRA regulations and the low pork retail prices. We believe that there are always opportunities where others have failed to capitalise on such markets and we are not the only ones in the UK that have invested heavily in the pork industry to specialise in niche market segmentation. The United Kingdom has a shortage of quality Free Range producers of traditional pork. In recent years a number of smaller producers have established themselves and are bringing quality local produce to market. We are one of these suppliers that hold the desire to supply local customers with local produce. Specialty Crop Specialty Crop is located at our land in Cropston ( 13.73 acres / 5.56 hectares ) which is just a few minutes from our main base in Swithland. We are specialising in a range of Asian Specialty vegetables including Pak Choi, Choi Sum and Gai Lan which will support the needs of the local Chinese and other Asian population in and around the Loughborough region. Loughborough has a high Asian population, especially Chinese who have been unable until now to buy quality fresh Asian vegetables at sensible every day affordable prices. It is our long term ambition to be the UK's largest producer of such specialty vegetables and to put Swithland Agricultural Holdings firmly on the map as the name behind UK grown Asian Vegetables. We aim to grow our own wheat, barley, beans and other cops that can be used to feed our livestock on our own holding, buying in only what is needed to top up what cannot be produced on our own land. Long term sustainable production through vertical production integration will eventually allow us to become Organic which is our eventual goal.
